British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer today held talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and German Friedrich Mertz, and reviewed Britain’s plans to drop air aid on Gaza and evacuate sick and injured children.
During a phone call, Starmer, Macron, and Mirtz discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and they all agreed that it was “horrific”.
Starmer reviewed – according to a statement issued by his office – how Britain will go ahead with its plans to cooperate with partners such as Jordan to drop air aid and evacuate children who need medical care.
The statement added that the three leaders agreed on the necessity of developing strong plans to transform the required ceasefire urgently into a permanent peace, and they also discussed their intention to work closely together on a plan that pave the way for a long -term solution that achieves security in the region, and they agreed that once this plan is formulated, they will seek to cooperate with other active parties – including from within the region – to push this plan forward.
These talks come one day after the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, directed sharp criticism to the international community for ignoring the widespread famine in the Gaza Strip, describing it as a “ethical crisis that is a challenge to the global conscience.”
Relief organizations also warned of the high number of children with acute malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, which Israel has tightened siege and prevented the introduction of aid to it since last March.
Distracting
On the other hand, the UN Commissioner of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) Philip Lazarini considered that offering aid to Gaza by air is merely distracting and smoke to cover up the reality of the humanitarian catastrophe, and may lead to the lives of hungry civilians.
This came in response to a Western news agency claim that Israel will allow Western countries to drop aid from the air on Gaza for two days from Friday, while no actual projection of this aid has been monitored until the moment.
Lazarini said – in a tweet on the X platform – that “the air supplies will not reflect the reality of the worsening hunger in Gaza as it is expensive and ineffective, but may lead to the lives of hungry civilians,” Lazarini said – in a tweet on the X platform.
Lazarini added that “the introduction of aid through land is easier, faster, cheaper, more effective, safe and dignified for the people of Gaza.”
The UN official stressed that “hunger made with human hands is treated only by political will,” calling for the lifting of the Israeli siege and the opening of the crossings, and the guarantee of freedom of movement and the generous access of aid to the needy people, according to his expression.
He pointed out that UNRWA has the equivalent of 6 thousand trucks stuck in Jordan and Egypt, and only awaits the green light to enter Gaza.
The deaths and injuries were preceded by aid that countries sent to Gaza via the air, during the extermination war that Israel continues to commit in the 22nd month.
It is noteworthy that international organizations and local institutions in Gaza warn that the continuation of the siege and the prevention of aid by Israel warns of collective deaths between children, amid the deterioration of health and living conditions and the collapse of the entire medical system.
Since last March, Israel has escaped from continuing to implement an agreement with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) for the ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners, and Gaza crossings were closed to aid trucks stacked at the border, and Gaza has been besieging 18 years ago, and about 1.5 million Palestinians out of about 2.2 million in the sector have become homeless after the extermination war destroyed their homes.
