Bombs made in the United States used in fatal Israeli strikes in Gaza schools, says HRW | News Israel-Palestine Conflict

Human Rights Watch says that US weapons have been used in illegal blind Israeli attacks ”who killed Palestinian civilians.

Israel has used bombs made in the United States in “illegal attacks” against schools housing displaced civilians in Gaza, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said.

In a report published on Thursday, HRW said that Israel had made hundreds of strikes on schools since the start of his war against Gaza in October 2023, including “illegally blind attacks” using American ammunition, which violated international law.

In his report, HRW studied two incidents in 2024 in which he found that the small GBU-39 diameter bombs provided by the United States were used. An attack on the Khadija Girls’ School in Deir El-Balah on July 27, 2024, killed at least 15 people and another attack on the Zeitoun C school in Gaza City on September 21, 2024, left at least 34 dead.

The Israeli authorities have not publicly shared information relating to attacks. Israel has often said that his attacks on schools were aimed at Hamas fighters. He has not provided any evidence to indicate the presence of military objectives on the sites of the attacks documented by the rights for the defense of rights.

In the two attacks, HRW and that there was no evidence of a military presence in schools on attack days.

The rights defending group also warned that recent Israeli attacks against schools housing displaced persons aggravated the disastrous humanitarian situation in the territory.

HRW said that from July 1 to 10, 2025, Israeli forces struck at least 10 schools where displaced people were sheltered, killed 59 people and moving dozens of families, according to the United Nations Humanitarian Affairs Coordination (OCHA).

The group stressed that schools used to accommodate civilians remain protected by international law, unless used for military purposes.

The group of rights called for an immediate arrest in arms transfers in Israel, warning of the potential complicity of governments providing military support.

“These strikes on schools housing inappropriate families are only a window on carnage in Gaza,” said Gerry Simpson, associate director of HRW. “Other governments should not tolerate this horrible massacre of Palestinian civilians who are only looking for security.”

He also urged states to maintain their obligations under international law, including the genocide agreement.

“Governments supporting Israel cannot say militarily that they did not know what their weapons are for,” said Simpson.

According to the United Nations, nearly a million inappropriate Palestinians have housed in the schools of Gaza since October 2023.

HRW said the repeated targeting of civil infrastructure, including shelters, hospitals and schools, has shown a model of attacks that can constitute war crimes.

HRW noted that almost all 564 Gaza schools have undergone damage, 92% requiring complete reconstruction or major repairs.

The UN noted that at least 836 people reflecting in schools had been killed.
