The Brazilian authorities have opened an urgent investigation into an unprecedented environmental pollution incident in the Gundia River in the state of Sao Paulo, after leaking large quantities of blue chemical dye to the river course as a result of a truck’s coup.
The Public Prosecution Office in Sao Paulo announced that the investigation of the accident was described as “dangerous”, after the truck collided with a lighting pillar on the side of the road, which led to the leakage of its contents of dye via the sewage network, and its arrival in the environmental “Tulipas” lake and then to the river.
The Gundia Municipality indicated in an official statement that the chemical leaked from one of the truck containers to the drainage sink directly linked to the river. The accident has caused the transformation of water to light blue, which led to a direct impact on the local ecosystem, which included changing the color of some living organisms such as ducks and Cabbara.
