US President Joe Biden strongly defended Israel, stressing that Israeli forces are not committing genocide in their military campaign on the Gaza Strip.
Biden said during the American Jewish Heritage Month event at the White House, “What is happening in Gaza is not genocide. We reject that.”
On numerous occasions in various parts of the country, Biden faced protests from pro-Palestinian advocates who described him as an “atmosphere of genocide” for his steadfast support for Israel.
In his statements at the White House, Biden affirmed his belief that Israel has been the victim since the attack of last October 7, which was launched by the Palestinian resistance.
Biden said that American support for the safety and security of Israelis is “steadfast.”
Stand with Israel
He added, “We stand with Israel to eliminate (Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar),” and continued, “We want to defeat Hamas… and we are working with Israel to achieve that.”
Negotiations between Israel and Hamas aimed at releasing the prisoners faltered, but Biden pledged not to give up seeking their release.
The US President said, “We will return them to their homes. We will return them to their homes, no matter the difficulties.”
Biden also called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, something he reiterated in his speech at Morehouse College’s graduation ceremony on Sunday.
Biden renewed his condemnation of the request of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, noting that the Prosecutor himself simultaneously requested the issuance of arrest warrants against 3 Hamas leaders.
