Berlin – Paris, the return of night trains: connections are once again established between Paris, Brussels and Berlin to the delight of sleeper and rail lovers.
The night train between Berlin, Brussels and Paris is running again, this has not happened for almost ten years.
The French, German, Austrian and Belgian railway companies work together to the delight of rail lovers.
Juri Maier, Back on Track Collective: “We are happy that after nine years there is a night train to Paris again. We have fought for this for a long time as Back on Track. And now we are here and can accompany the departure of the first train.”
Demand is so high that sleeper trains are full and you have to buy your ticket weeks in advance.
Sebastian Reisinger, Rail blogger: “We also have to look at the rolling stock, especially on this new line, to introduce more modern trains in the coming years in order to be competitive with other suppliers. But I think that with the new generation of Nightjet, we are on the right track.”
Deutsche Bahn has suffered from a lack of investment, with Austrian railways vastly outperforming the quality of trains.
On the German side, Deutsche Bahn accuses of a cruel lack of investment and suffers from comparison with ÖBB, the Austrian railway company.
Benedikt Nimmervoll, Passenger: “It was quite a pleasant trip. It’s quite comfortable not to have to worry about flights or anything like that. The only downside is that it is sometimes slightly late, like today ‘today.’
Strong demand should push companies to invest more in sleeper trains, that is in any case the hope of the Euronews correspondent.
Liv Stroud, Euronews Correspondent (in English): “Go to sleep in Berlin and wake up in Brussels. This year marks the return of sleeper trains. With climate change dominating headlines, train companies are laying tracks to connect European capitals to each other. But will that be enough to make the journey more important than its destination?”
