The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded negatively to calls made by Europeans and Americans at the United Nations General Assembly.
In a statement, Mr Netanyahu’s office said the prime minister had not even responded, and that the Israeli army had been ordered to continue the fight with full force.
On X, its press service declares that “The news about a ceasefire is false. This is a Franco-American proposal to which the Prime Minister has not even responded. The news regarding the so-called directive to moderate fighting in the north is also the opposite of the truth. The Prime Minister asked the IDF to continue the fighting with all the necessary force and in accordance with the plans presented to him. Likewise, the fighting in Gaza will continue until all the objectives of the war are achieved.”
The Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz also declared that there would be no ceasefire, pledging to continue fighting and bring evacuated Israeli citizens home.
The war in Gaza is about to pass the one-year milestone, as Israel stands on the brink of a wider war with Hezbollah.
Nearly 600 people on the Lebanese side were killed in the bombings, the largest since 2006.
Furthermore, more than 90,000 people were displaced by these five days of Israeli strikes on Lebanon. The families fled the south of the country, most of them going to Beirut or Syria.
A speech at the UN expected this Friday
After a postponement due to the conflict with Hezbollah, it is finally this Friday that the Israeli Prime Minister will deliver a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in the morning. He will return to Israel the next day.
His office has not yet revealed which world leaders, if any, he will meet on the sidelines of the event.
