Today, Friday, Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir and thousands of settlers stormed the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron, south of the occupied West Bank.
Ghassan Al-Rajabi, director of the Hebron Endowments, told Anadolu Agency, “Thousands of settlers, Rifqa bin Ghafir, stormed the Ibrahimi Mosque to celebrate the so-called (Sarah’s Saturday).”
Ben Gvir and the Israeli settlers performed Talmudic rituals inside the sanctuary.
The Ibrahimi Mosque is subjected to repeated attacks by Israeli settlers and occupation authorities, the most recent of which occurred during what is known as the “Jewish Throne Day” last October, when the mosque was closed and the call to prayer was prohibited.
The Noble Mosque of the Patriarchs is considered one of the oldest and most important religious places for Muslims, and it gained this status because it was built above a cave in which the prophets Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, peace be upon them, are said to have been buried.
Since the mosque was divided between Jews and Muslims after the massacre committed there in 1994, several restrictions have been imposed on Muslims, including preventing the call to prayer more than 50 days a year, including Saturdays and Jewish holidays. It is also prohibited to call the Maghrib call to prayer daily on the grounds that it coincides with the prayers of settlers in the section. Designated for Jews.
