Beit Duqqu village is one of a group of Palestinian villages belonging to Jerusalem, but the separation wall separated it from the city from the northwestern side, so the center of life of its residents shifted to the city of Ramallah.
The village is about 13 kilometers from Jerusalem, and its area is about 6,000 dunams (one dunam equals one thousand square meters).
The population of Beit Daqqo is estimated at about 2,500 people inside the village, but many times that number live abroad, especially in Jordan, the Gulf States, and the United States.
The village is known for growing olives, almonds and grapes, and its crops were marketed in Jerusalem.
As for the name, the head of its local council, Jamal Daoud, says that it is named after a Sufi ascetic named Omar al-Daqqaq, who was famous for beating drums and celebrating religious festivals and occasions in the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The head of the local council says that the literacy rate in the village is 96%, and its residents work in government jobs and the private sector.
