The European Investment Bank unlocks a billion euros for development in Ukraine.

The European Union’s financing institution announced on Monday a new financial support of around one billion euros for the recovery and development of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky, and the president of the European Investment Bank (BEI), Nadia Calviño, held a joint conference in Kyiv on Monday, after their discussions on financial support and for infrastructure.

“Our commitment to Ukraine is unshakable, and the European Investment Bank is one of the main ones, if not the principal, investment partner of the country at present”said Ms. Calviño.

The agreements signed during the visit will mobilize around a billion euros in public and private investments, focused on essential infrastructure, energy systems, water supply and anti-bomb shelters in schools.

In addition, nearly 500 million euros will be sent through large Ukrainian banks to support small and medium -sized enterprises, including those that operate near the front lines.

Ms. Calviño confirmed that the BEI granted priority to investments in the fields of schooling, health care and drinking water supply, and that other discussions were underway to determine the extent of the necessary financing, especially in the housing sector.

She stressed that the bank’s objective is to help the displaced Ukrainians find a normal life as soon as possible, under the conditions of a just and lasting peace.

President Zelensky stressed the importance of these projects, especially in the humanitarian sector, including education and housing. He also welcomed the bank’s involvement in border crossing infrastructure, which should soon give positive results.

Asked what he knew about the conversation between Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin, Mr. Zelensky said it was important not to “Live rumors and messages disseminated by the media”.
