The Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, Mustafa Barghouti, warned of the danger of what the Palestinians are being subjected to in Jenin and Tulkarm, stressing that what is happening could be repeated in all areas of Palestine, and that no one is immune to these Israeli plans.
Barghouti explained, during an interview with Tel Aviv Tribune, that the Israeli incursion into the West Bank revealed that Israel was practicing the same oppressive behavior it practiced in Gaza, but with a greater goal of annexing the entire West Bank, which constitutes the greatest danger facing the Palestinian people since the first Nakba.
Barghouti pointed out that the goal of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not only to subjugate Gaza, but also to eliminate any chance of establishing an independent Palestinian state, according to what he wrote in his book “A Place Under the Sun.”
The choice is to persevere
He pointed out that what is currently happening is not only being done by a Zionist government, but by a fascist government in the literal sense, which does not hesitate to commit any crime in order to achieve its goals.
Barghouti attributed Netanyahu’s encouragement to escalate his brutality to three factors: the first is the limited international reaction and the complicity of some international parties with Israel’s crimes; the second is the weakness of the official Arab and Islamic position and the tendency of some governments towards normalization with Israel; and the third is the continuation of the internal Palestinian division and the failure to form a unified national leadership.
He stressed that the Palestinians today have no choice but to stand firm and steadfast on their land to thwart the Israeli plans, and that resistance is the only weapon they possess, calling at the same time for escalating international popular action to impose boycotts and sanctions on Israel, and appealing to the Arab peoples to continue to pressure with all their energy.
Barghouti concluded by stressing that the Palestinian people will not give up their land and homeland no matter the cost, and that steadfastness and resistance are their only path.
