A day after ousting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, protesters want Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus to take over the country and lead an interim government, rejecting military rule.

Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country on Monday as protesters defied a military curfew to march on the capital.

Thousands of protesters stormed his official residence.

The departure of the former prime minister was celebrated in the Bangladeshi capital.

Army chief General Zamam said he was temporarily taking control of the country.
