Clinically, South Africa won on Sunday January 21 in the Southern African derby of Group E against Namibia (3-0). A victory which concludes the second day of the group phase of this CAN 2024.

After its astonishing victory over Tunisia in the first match, Namibia thought it could repeat the feat and confirm its status as the “thrill team” of the first day. But the Brave Warriors quickly got back on track, quite stupidly conceding the opener.

On a harmless attack, Hanamub involuntarily touches the ball with his arm during a duel with a South African. VAR offers a penalty to South Africa. Percy Tau exorcises the demons of the match against Mali and transforms into strength (15th, 1-0).

The Brave Warriors do not give up and attack again, but Bafana Bafana make the break against the flow of play. Zwane, alone on the receiving end of a cross, controls and strikes. A platinum curl that doubles South Africa’s advantage (26th, 2-0). A second curl from the Mamelodi Sundowns scorer completes the affair before the break (40th, 3-0).

Having just entered the game, Maseko adds one more in Kazapua’s bag, probably avoidable (75th, 4-0). Enough to make this confrontation the biggest victory of the tournament.
