Bad weather caused significant disruption on the roads in Germany this Thursday.

Snowfall and freezing rain largely affected the west of the country.

As a result, many motorists were stuck for hours on certain roads such as in Koenigwinter, where the Red Cross distributed them with something to warm up.

The south of Germany was not spared either, and traffic accidents increased due to slippery roads.

As a precautionary measure, many nurseries and schools remained closed, measures were taken to limit home-work travel.

Disruptions have also been noted on the rails: Deutsche Bahn has canceled long-distance services and at Frankfurt airport, freezing rain has disrupted air traffic. Several hundred flights were canceled or delayed, also in Munich.

These bad weather also hit the Czech Republic and complicated traffic on the roads. Disturbances which are expected to continue in the north of the country.
