Axios website quoted 3 sources as saying that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, France, Germany, Germany and the United Kingdom agreed – in a telephone conversation on Monday – to determine the end of August “a final date” for Iran to reach a nuclear agreement.

The site stated that if an agreement is not reached by this deadline, the three European powers intend to activate the “conflict settlement mechanism” that re -imposing all the sanctions of the UN Security Council, which had been raised under the Iranian nuclear agreement (joint comprehensive action plan) with Iran for the year 2015.

In conjunction with the tenth anniversary of the signing of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1 group, it seemed in the interface European paintings by activating the “trigger mechanism” or what is called “Snap Back”, in response to Iran’s change of its position on cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and Tehran’s threats to withdraw from the nuclear proliferation treaty, after the attack on its nuclear facilities in June 2025.

On July 14, 2015, Iran reached with the “5+1” group (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany) to an agreement regulating the lifting of sanctions imposed on Tehran for decades, and allowed it to export and import weapons, in exchange for preventing it from developing nuclear missiles, and accepting its nuclear sites, and the agreement was a continuation of the Lausanne agreement.

The mechanism of settling conflicts – or what is called “Snap Back” – allows any of the parties to the agreement to complain about Iran’s breach of its nuclear obligations, and accordingly opens a legal path that may end with the re -imposition of all international sanctions that were imposed before signing the agreement, without the need for a new vote in the Security Council.

Iranian position

Last Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ismail Baqi, said – at a press conference – that it was no longer logical to resort to the mechanisms of the nuclear agreement after the attack on peaceful nuclear facilities.

My remaining stressed that what matters to Tehran now and considers it a priority is to lift the “unjust” sanctions from it.

He also pointed out that the mechanism of re -imposing sanctions imposed by the United Nations has no legal basis.

My stay said that his country would respond if the United Nations sanctions return after activating the mechanism of imposing automatic sanctions.

He added that European countries are not in a position to activate the United Nations mechanism to re -impose this mechanism related to sanctions.

A French diplomatic source told Reuters – last week – that European powers will re -impose United Nations sanctions on Iran according to the so -called “conflict settlement mechanism” if there is no agreement on the nuclear file that guarantees the security interests of Europe.
