The 21st session of the Doha Forum, which lasts for two days, began today, Sunday, in the presence of heads of states and regional organizations, to exchange ideas and confront the challenges of the issues that are currently preoccupying the world, amid the Israeli war in Gaza casting a shadow over its dialogues.

In his speech at the forum, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani said that the Gaza crisis showed the size of the gap between East and West and the double standards, stressing that we must acknowledge the flaw in the global system that allows the conflict to continue.

The Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister added that it is unfortunate that the pretexts given for targeting civilians in the Gaza Strip are acceptable to some, indicating that a review of the international and humanitarian system must begin, as force and discrimination have no privileges, as he put it.

He also stressed Qatar’s commitment to work for the release of the hostages, but it also wants to stop the bombing of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, stressing that the release of the hostages from Gaza was achieved through negotiations, not through Israeli military operations, and that they did not sense Israel’s seriousness in achieving peace.

For his part, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi said during his participation in one of the forum’s sessions that Israeli policy insists on continuing to remove the people of Gaza from the Gaza Strip, and that Israel is defying the world, violating international law and committing war crimes, while the world stands helpless in the face of it.

Al-Safadi stressed that what is happening in the Gaza Strip cannot continue, and that the danger threatens the entire region.

There is a need for a political solution

As for Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh, he said at the forum that Israel must be subjected to sanctions and cannot be allowed to continue violating international laws and Security Council resolutions, calling for an urgent investigation into Israeli crimes.

He stressed that it is unacceptable for Israel to talk about eliminating the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), because it will not happen, and that the movement is part of the mosaic of Palestinian politics, and that there is a need for a political solution that puts an end to the conflict, as he put it.

A collapsed humanitarian situation

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also participated in the forum, saying that the authority and credibility of the Security Council had been undermined by the inability to implement the ceasefire resolution in Gaza, pointing to the United States’ use of its veto the day before Friday against a resolution calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in the Strip.

Guterres stressed that the world faces the possibility of the collapse of the humanitarian system in the Gaza Strip as the Israeli war continues, stressing that he will not abandon his call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

He added that there is no effective protection for civilians in the Gaza Strip and that the number of victims of the Israeli war is unprecedented. He also thanked Qatar for its mediation efforts to reach a humanitarian truce in Gaza that lasted for a week, which led to the release of hostages and an increase in aid.

The Director General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philip Lazzarini, also participated in a session at the forum, saying that the agency is on the verge of collapse in Gaza, warning of a complete collapse of the humanitarian situation in the Strip.

Lazzarini stressed that an immediate ceasefire is necessary to end the hell on earth in Gaza, and that the poor humanitarian situation in Gaza exceeds anything he has seen in his life, according to him.

Concern for international peace

In turn, the Qatar News Agency said that the Doha Forum will give special importance to issues and issues of international peace and security, specifically the aggression, destruction and war of genocide waged by the Israeli occupation against the Gaza Strip.

The Doha Forum is the largest global platform for diplomacy, dialogue and diversity that brings together political leaders to discuss pressing global challenges, and aims to develop policies and provide applicable recommendations.
