At least two people have been killed and up to 100 people may be injured in Russia after a train collided with a truck in the southwestern Volgograd region, state media reported. Russian Railways confirmed in a message on its Telegram channel that eight carriages of the passenger train carrying some 800 people derailed in the collision.
Rescue teams and repair trains were immediately dispatched to the scene, while service on the affected section of the railway line was interrupted for an indefinite period.
Hundreds of rescuers are on the scene, according to Russian media. The train was en route from Kazan in southwestern Russia to Adler on Russia’s Black Sea coast.
Russia has seen an increase in freight and passenger train accidents, with at least seven major incidents reported since June. So far, there has been no indication of sabotage in any of these incidents.
