Residents of a region in northern Armenia are beginning to assess the damage caused by the worst flooding in decades.
At least four people have died and towns and villages have been cut off from the world, following the collapse of bridges and the flooding of highways caused by torrential rains which caused many rivers to overflow.
The flash floods also disrupted the crossing of the main border between Armenia and Georgia, and suspended train services between the two countries.
It has already been two days since this exceptional weather situation paralyzed a large part of the north of the country, forcing nearly 300 people to flee their homes.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry declared several towns and villages in the affected regions a “disaster zone” (equivalent to the state of natural disaster in France) over the weekend and called on the international community for help.
Russia has announced it is sending troops to help fight the consequences of these floods.
