No help has been delivered to Gaza since March 2, while the War of Israel in the enclave continues to rage.
At least 60,000 children in the Gaza Strip are “at risk of serious health complications due to malnutrition” because food supplies decrease in the middle of the aid blockade of Israel, according to the Enclave Ministry of Health.
The ministry’s press release came on Wednesday, one day after the United Nations Chief Antonio Guterres rejected a new Israeli proposal to control the Deliveries of Aid to Gaza, saying that it risks “controlling more and limiting the registration of aid to the last calorie and flour”.
The Ministry of Health has warned that “the adequate lack of nutrition and drinking water will worsen health challenges, with the continuous ban on vaccinations for children, in particular polio vaccinations”.
No aid has been provided to the Enclave of 2.3 million people since March 2, while Israel continues to seal the passages to the vital borders, except the entrance to everything, from food to medical supplies and fuel.
This forced the closure of 21 nutrition centers, disrupting the care of around 350 children already seriously ill -fed, according to the UN.
Last month, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) also warned that hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza risked seriously hungry and malnutrition, as an expansion of Israeli military activity severely disrupts food aid.
“PAM and partners in the food security sector have not been able to bring new food supplies to Gaza for more than three weeks,” the organization said in a statement, adding that its remaining food stocks will support operations for a maximum of two weeks.
Israel has repeatedly used humanitarian aid on several occasions as a collective pressure tool against the Palestinians for 18 months of his devastating war against the Gaza Strip, which killed more than 50,000 people, according to the Ministry of Health.
“All the basic supplies are exhausted,” said Juliet Touma of UNRWA, the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Aid. “It means babies, the children are going to bed hungry. Every day without these basic supplies, Gaza inch closer to very, very deep hunger. ”
COGAT, an Israeli military unit responsible for civil issues in the occupied Palestinian territory, also met representatives of the United Nations agencies and international aid groups and proposed “a mechanism of monitoring and structured aid” for Gaza, affirming that the aid was diverted from civilians by civilians by Hamas.
But Jonathan Whittall, a senior head of the United Nations for Gaza and the occupied West Bank, said last week that there was no proof of help.
The soldiers interrupted the flow of water from the Israeli company Mekorot to the Gaza Strip last week, effectively reducing 70% of the total water supply of the Palestinian enclave.
Hosni Mehanna, spokesperson for the municipality of Gaza, said that disconnecting the main pipeline located in the Shujayea district in eastern Gaza City, where Israeli forces have made a military assault since Thursday.
“The reasons for the interruption remain unclear, but we coordinate with international organizations to determine whether the pipeline was damaged due to the heavy Israeli bombardment in the region,” said Mehanna.
“Whatever the cause, the consequences are disastrous. If the flow of Mekorot water is not restored soon, Gaza will face a full-fledged water crisis,” he said.
