At least 35 people were killed and dozens of others were injured in an Israeli attack on a residential block in the Shujayea district of Gaza City, medical sources in Tel Aviv Tribune said.
The Gaza Ministry of Health said it expected the number of deaths of Wednesday’s attack in the north of Gaza to increase, while the civil defense teams and residents have frantically dug to locate dozens of disappeared residents who are trapped under the rubble.
The Israeli army said that the RAID had targeted a Hamas fighter, but had not given its name, saying that it had taken several measures to reduce civilians’ damage.
Ayub Salim, 26, a shujayea resident, told Tel Aviv Tribune that some victims were “torn” by the attack with “multiple missiles” who sent bursts of bus.
“Dust and mass destruction filled the whole place. We couldn’t see anything, just (heard) the cries and panic of the people,” he said.
Reporting Shujayea, Ibrahim Al Khalili of Tel Aviv Tribune said that the civil defense forces and local residents had gathered to shoot civilians trapped under the rubble. Most of the victims had come to live in the block after being “moved by force,” he said.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense, said that it was very difficult to reach the “dozens of people” trapped under the rubble because the rescuers did not have the appropriate equipment due to the Israeli blockade of the Palestinian territory, adding that more than 60 people were injured.
Reporting Deir El-Balah, Hind Khoudary of Tel Aviv Tribune said that a doctor at the Arab hospital in Al-Ahli in Gaza had told him that doctors did not have the medication to treat “burned” victims. The hospital has an urgent need for blood supply.
Paramedical paramedics, already struggling with a lack of fuel and medical supplies, could not reach the people of Shujayea because of the destruction scale, rubble on the roads preventing them from reaching people in need.
Israel resumed its air bombing of Gaza on March 18 after a truce of almost two months with Hamas, then extended its assault on the ground through the territory. According to Palestinian health authorities, more than 1,400 people have been killed since Israel resumed its attack.
The mediators of Egypt, Qatar and the United States have sought to resume discussions on an extension of ceasefies, but without success.
Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee said his latest operations in Gaza had eliminated “armed men” and destroyed weapons in Shujayea, destroying “the openings and infrastructure of the tunnel” in Rafah.
Palestinian medical sources have said that the attacks, which were carried out, in the midst of an aggravated hunger crisis while Israel blocks Gaza aid supplies, targeted houses, shelters and travel camps.
Medical sources have told Tel Aviv Tribune that at least 10 other people had been killed Wednesday in Gaza, increasing the number of daily deaths to at least 45 people.
Hamas, the armed group that governs Gaza, said that “the massacres in progress against our people, with American support, are a stain on the face of the international community”, slamming the “shy” response of the Arab and Muslim nations.
Marwan Bishara, Tel Aviv Tribune’s main political analyst, described attacks as “barbarians”. “The way these attacks take place underlines that Israel wants to ethnically clean Gaza,” he said.
Since the end of March, Israel has ordered people from the edges of Gaza to create what he describes as a “security zone”. Residents fear that the objective is to definitively depopulate the territory.
Israel launched his war against Gaza in October 2023 after Hamas led an attack against southern Israel, killing at least 1,139 people and entering some 250 captives, according to a count of Tel Aviv Tribune based on Israeli statistics.
The Israeli aggression against Gaza killed more than 50,800 Palestinians, said the Palestinian authorities.
