The collapse of a residential building in the Russian city of Belgorod on Sunday left at least 15 dead and around twenty injured, according to a new report.

Moscow claims that debris from a Ukrainian missile intercepted by anti-aircraft defenses fell on the building.

Located near the border with Ukraine, the town has been regularly targeted by attacks for several months.

Russia also claims to have neutralized 31 Ukrainian drones during the night from Sunday to Monday, including 12 above the Belgorod region. The Kursk and Lipetsk regions, as well as annexed Crimea, were also targeted.

Intense fighting in the Kharkiv region

In his daily address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported “fierce fighting” in the Kharkiv region, in northeastern Ukraine, where Russian forces launched a surprise offensive on Friday.

The Ukrainian army recognizes Russia’s “tactical successes” in the region and specifies that fighting is underway in the border town of Vovchansk, where nearly 1,500 people have been evacuated.

Russian strikes on the city this weekend are said to have caused several casualties. There are currently only around 500 inhabitants left in Vovchansk, which had nearly 17,000 before the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
