Thousands of Palestinians left the northern Gaza Strip on foot on Wednesday as Israel intensifies its military offensive and food and water supplies dwindle in a crippling siege.

More than 70 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have already left their homes, but the number of people heading south has increased recently as Israeli troops battle Hamas fighters in the town of Gaza and the humanitarian situation is becoming more and more disastrous.
