As Hurricane Milton approaches, Florida calls on residents to evacuate


The hurricane threatens the American state less than two weeks after the passage of the deadly storm Helene which killed more than 230 people.

Florida residents are preparing as Hurricane Milton approaches the Tampa Bay area in the western part of the state.

2 hurricanes in 2 weeks

This storm is preparing to strike less than two weeks after the devastating hurricane Helene which killed more than 230 people.

“We were hit by the last storm, we were flooded” reports a local resident. “It’s about being prepared this time. We’re preparing sandbags to place around the house to prevent what happened last week.”

The hurricane, downgraded to level 4

The National Hurricane Center observed winds reaching up to 250 km/h. Classified as level 5, the hurricane was however downgraded to level 4 this Tuesday morning.

Residents called to evacuate

US authorities declared a state of emergency and urged residents to evacuate. A call reiterated by the American Vice-President, Kamala Harris: “Please listen to your local authorities, because I know a lot of people have survived these hurricanes before. This one is going to be very, very bad.”
