The Portuguese Jose Mourinho expressed his great grief over the death of former football player Jorge Costa, who coached him in Porto, the European champion in 2004, describing him as “part of his history” that everyone remembers as “leader” inside the dressing room.
The Turkish coach, Mourinho, gave a speech to the media – Tuesday – before his team’s match in the Champions League qualifiers against Dutch Feyenoord tomorrow, Wednesday.
“Part of my story fades. There are leaders, it’s a matter of what you believe in. Jorge was as well. He was keen that the coach did his work; it is not necessarily a leader in the dressing room,” Mourinho said.

The news of Jorge Costa’s death spread widely on Tuesday, when Porto himself announced that his current sports director had a heart attack at the age of 53.
“With great sadness, we learned about the sudden death of the Portuguese legend Jorge Costa,” said the European Football Association.
“Jorge was more than just a football player. He was a real captain and warrior that inspired generations. He was embodying courage, flexibility and loyalty,” wrote the European Union president, Alexander Chevren, on the social networking site X.
