Are We Witnessing a “New Normal” in the Middle East? | Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Former US ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer believes the United States has a “weakness” in its relations with Israel’s “extremist government.”

By expanding illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and refusing to consider Palestinian self-determination, “we are seeing a situation that will repeat itself” in the Middle East, says former US ambassador to Israel Daniel Kurtzer.

Kurtzer told host Steve Clemons that the Gaza war “exposed a weakness in the United States in its dealings with an extremist government in Israel.” The result is that American diplomacy has failed to end the Israeli carnage in Gaza, nor to resolve the underlying issues between Palestine and Israel. As a result, the conflict in the region continues to escalate, with no end in sight.
