Angry farmers: mobilizations in Greece, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland

In Francedespite the return to calm on the roads and highways, the Peasant Confederation announced “more blockages next week”. “Yes, the Peasant Confederation continues the blockades and mobilization because nothing has been settled on income”declared the organization on X. Côté FNSEA, the main French agricultural union, Arnaud Rousseau, its president, threatened to “put the table back” if the government does not keep its promises. He set a deadline for the promulgation of a bill by June, in which he wishes “see things about facilities, competitiveness, (…) food sovereignty” . In Germanytractors had to block access to theFrankfurt am Main airport, one of the largest transfer hubs in the world. Around two thousand devices had been announced but ultimately only around four hundred arrived on site, according to the police. Passengers had some difficulty reaching the terminals, but no serious interruption of traffic has been recorded. The main demand of German farmers concerns the expiration of tax refunds on agricultural diesel.

In Swiss, more than 30 farmers drove their tractors to the center of Geneva this Saturday to demand fairer remuneration for their work. Their main concern relates to huge and opaque profit margins large supermarkets, which give the impression that food products are expensive, when the real cost of production and the profits of farmers are not.

In Greeceangry farmers threw their produce on the ground in Thessaloniki on Saturday, claiming that this amounts to sell without profit. Farmers from various parts of Greece carried coffins and black flags as protest organizers said “rising production costs have pushed farmers to the brink of disaster.”

In Belgium, farmers are also continuing their mobilization. SATURDAY several supermarkets were blocked againnotably in Marche-en-Famenne, Zemst and Turnhout. In these sectors, the main distribution chains were affected by these blockages.
