The mobilization of European farmers continues, particularly in Spain, Moldova and Poland.
After several days of demonstrations, the mobilization of Spanish farmers has not weakened. This Tuesday, rallies are planned notably in Girona, in the north-east of the country and on the outskirts of Barcelona. A movement to denounce the common agricultural policy of the European Union. But also the precariousness of the sector.
“Over the last two years, we have suffered losses of 40% for cereals“, explains a Spanish farmer.
In Moldova, farmers blocked the main road leading to Romania. They are demanding more government subsidies to cope with the losses they say they have suffered for 2 years.
The Moldovan government has already paid the equivalent of more than 13 million euros last year to help the sector. An amount considered insufficient by farmers.
In Poland, too, the movement continues. At the border with Ukraine, some angry farmers dumped the cargo from a truck carrying Ukrainian grain destined for the European Union.
An action which provoked strong reactions. kyiv denounced an “unacceptable” incident and Warsaw announced the opening of an investigation.
For several days, Polish farmers have been protesting against imports of Ukrainian agricultural products, which they consider to be unfair competition.
In 2022, the European Union lifted customs duties on Ukrainian agricultural products to help the country’s economy. A measure highly criticized by some farmers across the EU.
