Farmers’ protests continue across Europe. In France, 79 people were arrested after an intrusion and damage in Rungis.
For the first time since the start of the mobilization, French police have arrested people involved in the ongoing farmer protests across the country.
79 people were arrested after an intrusion and damage in an area of the Rungis market, one of the main objectives of the movement.
Protesters are demanding higher wages, help to meet rising costs and less regulation. For its part, the government announced that it was ready to make concessions, but failed to put an end to this widespread action.
Nearly 15,000 police officers were deployed, mainly in the Paris region, to prevent the convoy from surrounding the capital. Other cities are also experiencing significant blockages on major roads.
Similar convoys also paralyze Italy. Farmers took to the highways and streets of several major cities across the country to denounce similar problems to their neighbors.
European governments are trying to find solutions before the European elections in June, during which pro-farmer movements are expected to make big progress.
