“Anatomy of a Fall” triumphs at the European Film Awards

The French film “Anatomy of a Fall” by Justine Triet was awarded an award on Saturday in Berlin by the European Cinema Academy, which has awarded the best European films each year since 1988.

The feature film won the awards for best screenplay, best direction, best editing and best film, as well as the best actress award for Sandra Hüller.

After winning the Palme d’Or in Cannes, it’s consecration.

This legal thriller tells the story of a successful writer suspected of the murder of her husband. Through the investigation and the ensuing trial, Justine Triet delivers a true dissection of the couple’s relationship, magnificently interpreted by German actress Sandra Hüller, the director’s muse.

Other films in competition included Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest”, Agnieszka Holland’s “Green Border”, Matteo Garrone’s “Moi Capitaine” and Aki Kaurismäki’s “Dead Leaves”.

“The Zone of Interest” is an American-British-Polish film by English director Jonathan Glazer. It tells the story of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss, who strives to build a dream life for his family in a house with a garden next to the camp.

The film “Green Border” by Polish director Agnieszka Holland explores the migration crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland.

“Me Captain” by Italian director Matteo Garrone follows the odyssey of two young Senegalese people on their way to Italy.

Finally, the romantic comedy “Dead Leaves” by Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki tells a love story in Helsinki.

The 36th European Film Awards ceremony showed all the diversity, richness and relevance of European cinemas. This year, there is a particularly tough competition, and films that take the pulse of Europe and the world in real time. Committed and sensitive films that allow us to better understand our humanity, and its many flaws.
