Oman- After the shooting attack carried out by a Jordanian truck driver at the Jordanian Karameh border crossing, which led to the killing of 3 Israelis, the door was opened wide to many political, security and military possibilities and developments.
Security and military experts confirmed that the occupation will seek to exploit the operation to seize more lands adjacent to the border with Jordan, as part of the plan known as the “Deal of the Century,” and to impose full Israeli security and military control along the border between the two sides, in a clear and explicit violation of what was stipulated in the Wadi Araba Peace Treaty signed between the Jordanian and Israeli sides in 1994.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth announced that the perpetrator of the attack was a Jordanian truck driver named Maher Al-Jazi (39 years old), while the Jordanian Ministry of Interior confirmed that the official authorities had begun investigating the incident, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that this was “a difficult day for Israel.”
Security breach
Retired military expert Colonel Dr. Muhammad Al-Muqabala considered the shooting at the Allenby Crossing (King Hussein Bridge as it is called in Jordan, and Al-Karamah Crossing as it is called in Palestine) to be a “security and military breach” through a truck driver smuggling a gun and shooting at Israelis.
The interviewer told Tel Aviv Tribune Net that this incident and the killing of the Israelis “reflect the truth of the Jordanian popular pulse, and it is a process somewhat similar to what happened near the Egyptian border before,” and indicates that the Arab peoples “have not been falsified in their awareness of what is called peace with the Israelis,” and that what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank is not separate from what is called “the unity of the arenas” among the Arab peoples.
Explaining that the continuation of the occupation’s crimes in the Gaza Strip against civilians, the daily incursions taking place in the West Bank, and the acceleration of attempts to Judaize the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, all led to the implementation of this heroic operation, which “is likely to be followed by many other operations as long as the occupation continues its aggression against the Gaza Strip.”
The expert pointed out that “many similar operations were thwarted, whether from the Jordanian or Egyptian side, during previous periods, but they were not announced for security reasons,” he said.
Operational implications
Regarding what the operation reflects, the interview said that the attack carried out by a Jordanian citizen tells us that “the Jordanian street is boiling” over the massacres against the Palestinians in the occupied territories, and that the Jordanian state must take many convincing measures on the political, security and military levels to stop the aggression on Gaza.
At the same time, the interviewee believes that “the occupation is capable of turning threats into opportunities,” and thus will begin to incite against Jordan, as a result of its advanced positions on the war on Gaza, and will use the “sacrificing operation” as a justification to carry out unilateral measures that will lead to imposing its security and military control over the entire border with Jordan, closing the land crossings with the Kingdom, and moving its military vehicles near the border with the country, which represents a real military threat to Jordan, and a clear violation of what was stipulated in the peace agreement.
Security expert Khaled Al-Majali agrees with the opposing military expert’s estimates that the occupation wants to exploit the shooting by increasing the pace of attacks by the Israeli army and settlers on large areas in the West Bank, especially in the Palestinian camps, with the aim of displacing their residents towards Jordan.
He added, in his interview with Tel Aviv Tribune Net, that the Jordanian government is required to immediately announce the closure of its borders with the Israeli side, as the latter seeks to displace about one million Palestinians from the West Bank who hold Jordanian citizenship towards Jordan, and perhaps the occupation will find a justification for its move after carrying out the operation on the border.
The security expert explained that the perpetrator of the attack was a Jordanian citizen who carried out his act as a result of “individual motives” related to the massacres taking place in the Gaza Strip and the raids against Palestinians in the West Bank. He added that “the perpetrator of the attack carried a pistol that is easy to conceal and contains approximately 15 bullets. He used approximately 5 bullets to kill 3 people before entering into an armed clash with the occupation soldiers.”
reaction
For his part, Mamdouh al-Abadi, the former Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister, blessed the operation, and said in his interview with Tel Aviv Tribune Net that what is happening, whether in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, or in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in terms of Judaization, “provokes the feelings of every Arab and every Muslim in the world.”
Al-Abadi added that what the Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is doing also provokes all Arab peoples, especially the Jordanian people, and therefore “what the Jordanian truck driver did today against the occupation soldiers is natural and expected, and what is unexpected and unnatural is for people to remain silent.”
He added, “If it weren’t for Jordan’s advanced official stances on the aggression on the Gaza Strip, the Jordanian people would have revolted a long time ago against the daily massacres taking place in the Gaza Strip.”
The former Deputy Prime Minister stressed that “the more the Israeli occupation increases its violence against our Palestinian people, the stronger the reactions it finds to confront it and express rejection of what is happening to the Palestinians, and what happened today is an initiative from Jordan that could be repeated.”
