A report published by an Israeli newspaper surprised supporters of the war in Israel, by declaring on the lips of Western officials that Tel Aviv had failed to achieve one of the most important goals of its war on the Gaza Strip, which was eliminating the capabilities of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
The report published by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth stated that Hamas had regained part of its control capabilities in a way that officials described as surprising, and that it had succeeded in eliminating what it called criminal entities that were stealing humanitarian convoys in the Gaza Strip.
In their comment on what was mentioned in the Israeli newspaper’s report, political and military analysts – who spoke in the analytical section “The Course of Events” – believed that there were many reasons that made the Israeli occupation fail to achieve the goals it set, most notably undermining the capabilities of the Hamas movement.
Writer and political analyst Ahmed Al-Heila said that the occupation did not understand that Hamas is not only a resistance movement, but rather it is part of Palestinian society, has a civil and organizational structure, and is the one who defends and resists – along with the rest of the resistance factions – on the ground in revenge for the Palestinians who are subjected to a brutal war.
The people of Gaza cling to Hamas and the resistance, because when the Israeli occupation launched its war on Gaza – he adds the trick – it did not limit itself to confronting Hamas, but rather targeted children, women and the elderly, in an attempt to eliminate the existence of the Palestinian person.
According to the academic and expert on Israeli affairs, Dr. Muhannad Mustafa, Israel has tried all methods to eliminate Hamas’ capabilities, but it has failed in doing so, indicating that what is tiring and worrying the occupation is that Hamas is still able to rebuild its capabilities in the areas from which the army withdraws. In the same context, he said that the so-called “generals’ plan” was drawn up to undermine Hamas’ capabilities, but it failed in this mission.
It is noteworthy that the Israeli newspaper’s report, citing Western diplomats, stated that Hamas’s ability to impose order in various areas of the Gaza Strip “represented an issue that is difficult to understand,” and indicated that this was achieved mainly in areas in the center of the Strip such as Al-Mawasi, Al-Nuseirat, and Deir Al-Balah.
Losing bet
The occupation also bet – Mustafa adds – on creating a rift between the Gazans and Hamas, and on finding an alternative to ruling Gaza, but it failed in that as well, as the people of Gaza did not rebel against Hamas, nor did some of the tribes and people accept the Israeli offer.
He also pointed out that Israel does not want the “Community Support Committee” to administer the Gaza Strip, which is sponsored by Egypt, nor does it want the Palestinian Authority to return to Gaza, even though the latter is coordinating with the occupation.
The military and strategic expert, Colonel Hatem Al-Falahi, attributed the failure of the Israeli occupation to eliminate Hamas’ capabilities to the method adopted by the movement in resistance, including the use of geography, tunnels, and guerrilla warfare, and to planning that relied on a long-term confrontation.
The Israeli political decision to continue the war on the Gaza Strip led to the exhaustion of the Israeli army and the erosion of its capabilities, which is what former Israeli military personnel warned against, as Colonel Al-Falahi said.
