An urgent appeal from Palestinian bodies to Egypt to assume its responsibilities News

Palestinian civil society frameworks and bodies launched an urgent appeal to the Egyptian authorities, calling on them to assume their humanitarian, legal and national responsibilities in an urgent manner, and to translate their official position rejecting the Israeli plans, by exercising their powers and imposing their sovereignty on their borders.

The appeal said that Egypt, being the only country that has direct borders with the Gaza Strip, entails national, moral and legal obligations of a special nature, in the face of the horror of the Israeli genocide, as the statement indicated.

The statement added that in light of the continued open Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza, who have been besieged for nearly two decades, Egypt’s responsibility increases to carry out its relief responsibilities, which aim to ensure that adequate humanitarian aid reaches two million and three hundred thousand Palestinians in Gaza, without delay or obstacles.

He pointed out that more than 9,000 Palestinians died due to the inability to treat them as a result of the collapse of the medical sector, with 23 hospitals and 53 health centers in the Gaza Strip out of service. Because of the Israeli aggression.

According to official sources in the Gaza Strip, this number is expected to increase unless effective measures are taken immediately, to flow medical aid and fuel in appropriate quantities to hospitals in the Gaza Strip, and to facilitate an effective mechanism for the exit of the wounded who are in urgent need of saving their lives.

The appeal – which was signed by 30 Palestinian frameworks, including federations, unions, and civil and popular Palestinian coalitions in the homeland and the diaspora – stressed the importance of implementing the decision of the joint summit of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which called for: “Breaking the siege on Gaza, and imposing the entry of Arab, Islamic, and international humanitarian aid convoys.” “Including food, medicine and fuel to the Gaza Strip immediately.”

The appeal also referred to a group of relevant international agreements, given that the genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip falls within the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court and the Rome Statute establishing the court, which punishes a wide range of crimes. Among them: genocide, starvation, targeting civilians and civilian buildings, and forced displacement.

He stressed that these agreements oblige all countries joining them to make all efforts to stop the genocide, adding that Egypt is legally obligated to provide the necessary supplies and enter the humanitarian aid, equipment and medical personnel that the besieged sector needs, and that it is free from any arrangements with the Israeli occupation, indicating: “We do not want sister Egypt to participate in the crime of genocide against our people in Gaza.”

The appeal concluded by urging the Egyptian authorities to challenge the American-Israeli dictates, and to translate the official Egyptian position rejecting the Israeli plans, which threaten the lives of two million and 300 thousand Palestinians in Gaza, and also threaten Egyptian national security, by strengthening the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land.
