An Italian MP prosecuted for assault and battery with a weapon

A member of Prime Minister Giorgia Melonio’s party, Emanuele Pozzolo is being prosecuted for accidentally shooting a man who was slightly injured on New Year’s Eve.

The year is off to a bad start for Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister, marred by a scandal.

Emanuele Pozzolo, one of his majority deputies, a member of the Brothers of Italy party, is under investigation for accidentally shooting a man on New Year’s Eve, in Rosazza, in the province of Biella ( Piamonte).

The deputy was indicted for serious assault after a shot fired from his weapon injured a 31-year-old man.

Upon examination, traces of powder were found on him on the morning of January 1 after his gun fired and grazed the leg of the son-in-law of a security member.

Pending the results of the investigation, the Biella prefecture will withdraw the firearms permit for personal defense issued to Emanuele Pozzolo while his weapon was confiscated by the carabinieri.

The events occurred during a party organized at the local Tourist Office by Francesca Delmastro, mayor of Rosazza and sister of Justice Undersecretary Andrea Delmastro.

The victim, who has not yet filed a complaint, says “State of shock”according to his lawyer.
