Israeli Army Radio announced on Sunday that an army battalion commander – the son of former Israeli Housing Minister Avi Eitam – was wounded by sniper bullets in Jabalia, while the occupation forces continued their raids on several areas in the Gaza Strip, while the resistance targeted the occupation forces in Jabalia and Beit Lahia.

Israeli Army Radio stated that Lieutenant Colonel Itamar Eitam, a major in the Bismalach Brigade, was moderately injured yesterday, Saturday, during a clash in Jabalia.

For its part, Maariv newspaper said that Itamar was injured by sniper fire, and was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. It explained that he holds the position of commander of the 6282 reserve battalion in the Bismalakh Brigade.

She said that the injured lieutenant colonel in Jabalia is the son of Avi Eitam, who was a brigadier general in the Israeli army, before holding several ministerial positions, the last of which was Minister of Housing and Construction between 2003 and 2004.

Thus, the number of declared Israeli army casualties rose to 3,591 since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, including 1,781 since the beginning of the ground operation on the 27th of the same month, according to the latest data published on the army’s website.

The announced number of dead by the Israeli army is 634, including 282 since the beginning of the ground operation, according to data from the army, which faces local accusations of concealing a much larger toll of its dead and wounded.

Resistance operations

For its part, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), announced that it bombed Israeli forces penetrating the Al-Qasaib neighborhood in the Jabalia camp with heavy-caliber mortar shells.

A Merkava 4 tank was also targeted with an Al-Yassin 105 missile in the Beit Lahia project in the northern Gaza Strip.

Earlier today, Abu Ubaida, the military spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades, announced the capture, killing, and wounding of Israeli soldiers during a complex operation yesterday afternoon, Saturday, in the northern Gaza Strip, where they lured an Israeli force into one of the tunnels in the Jabalia camp.

This is the first time that the Al-Qassam Brigades have announced the capture of Israeli soldiers in Gaza since the Al-Aqsa Flood Battle launched by the Palestinian resistance on October 7.

On May 12, the Israeli army began a ground operation in the Jabalia camp and some surrounding areas, before announcing on the 15 of the same month the expansion of this operation after its forces faced “fierce battles,” he said.

Martyrs and wounded

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation aircraft continue to launch violent raids and fire belts targeting the city of Rafah, Khan Yunis, and Jabalia camp, which led to the death of a number of Palestinians and the injury of others.

11 Palestinians were martyred in 4 Israeli raids that targeted a house and gatherings of Palestinians in the center of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Tel Aviv Tribune’s correspondent in Rafah said that 6 Palestinians – including two girls – were martyred as a result of an Israeli raid on a house in the Khirbet Al-Adas area, north of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

The neighborhoods of Al-Geneina (east of Rafah), Al-Shaboura (central), Yabna camp (central), and Al-Barazil and Al-Salam (east) witnessed violent Israeli raids throughout the hours of yesterday, Saturday, and Sunday morning.

The reporter reported that a Palestinian woman was martyred and others were injured in an Israeli artillery shelling on the town of Abasan, east of the city of Khan Yunis.

In the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, an Tel Aviv Tribune correspondent said that a number of Palestinians were injured as a result of an Israeli raid that targeted a house in the camp.

Israeli raids also targeted Jabalia camp, resulting in martyrs and wounded, including children.

This comes as part of the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza for the eighth month in a row, which has left more than 116,000 Palestinians dead or wounded – most of them children and women – and about 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
