The permanent representatives of the Arab League countries began an extraordinary meeting in Cairo on Monday to discuss developments in the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza since the seventh of last October.

The official Egyptian News Agency reported the launch of “the work of the extraordinary session of the League Council at the level of permanent delegates on Palestine, headed by Morocco,” at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League.

The meeting – which is being held at the request of Palestine – will discuss developments in the war on Gaza and ways to stop it.

The meeting began while the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, was in Brussels to participate in a meeting of European Union foreign ministers with the foreign ministers of Palestine, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Israel.

The Brussels meeting – which is the first for European Union foreign ministers this year – is expected to discuss preparations for holding an international conference on the principle of a two-state solution in the Middle East during the coming months.

Also on the agenda of the meeting are the European Union’s preparations to impose sanctions on some Jewish settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The Israeli army is waging its war on Gaza for the 108th day, with 25,295 Palestinians martyred and 63,000 others injured, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health in the Strip, which say that most of the victims are children and women.
