An explosion was heard off the coast of South Sinai, today, Tuesday, as Reuters quoted two security sources as saying that a drone was shot down near the Egyptian city of Dahab overlooking the Red Sea, in the second incident of its kind within a month.
Agence France-Presse quoted an eyewitness as saying, “We heard a big explosion towards the sea, and then a strange object fell into the water.”
An Egyptian channel also quoted eyewitnesses as saying that a flying object was shot down two kilometers from the city of Dahab. No injuries or damage were reported.
Earlier this month, the Egyptian Air Force shot down a drone that was spotted over Egyptian territorial waters, also near Dahab, which is about 125 kilometers south of Eilat.
Since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza on October 7, flying objects have been repeatedly shot down near South Sinai, and the Egyptian army has sometimes indicated drones coming “from the south of the Red Sea to the north.”
In late October, 6 people were injured in Egypt when two drones crashed in Taba and Nuweiba near the border with Israel.
The Ansar Allah Houthi group in Yemen announced that it had repeatedly targeted Eilat with drones and missiles in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza and the resistance factions.
The group also targeted ships in the Red Sea linked to Israel, and also announced that ships, regardless of their nationality, would be prohibited from sailing towards Israeli ports.
