Amnesty International considered that the suspension of US foreign aid is exposing the lives of millions of people around the world, stressing that its catastrophic consequences for human rights.

In a research note entitled “Spirits in the danger”, the organization reviewed the consequences of discounts that led to the stopping of vital programs around the world.

The National Director of Government Relations at the Amnesty International branch of the United States, Amanda Clasing, said that the sudden decision and chaotic implementation had a “great harm.”

Classing considered that the sudden cutting of programs violates international human rights law that the United States is committed to, and undermines decades of US leadership in global humanitarian and development efforts.

She pointed out that despite the complex relationship that binds American financing to human rights, the size and speed of the recent discounts created a fatal void that governments and other organizations cannot immediately damage.

The organization explained that American support was providing basic services of health care, food security and shelter, in addition to medical services and humanitarian support for people in fragile conditions, including women, girls and other marginalized groups, as well as refugees and protection seekers.

She pointed out in her research that the American decision to cut out foreign aid negatively affected a set of health programs in many countries, but rather led to their stopping in countries such as Guatemala, Haiti, South Africa, Syria, Yemen and South Sudan.

Amnesty International called on the administration of President Donald Trump to re -financing foreign aid through legal exceptions or any other mechanism, especially for the programs that have been affected by human rights, and emphasized to ensure that future aid is managed in line with international human rights law and standards.

The organization also called on Congress to continue to finance external aid strongly, reject any attempt to legalize discounts, and urged him to exercise censorship to ensure that American funding does not cause human rights damage.
