Amnesty International called on the Israeli authorities to “immediately” release Palestinian surgeon Dr. Khaled Al-Sir, who was kidnapped from Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip two months ago.

The human rights organization called on Tel Aviv to immediately reveal the whereabouts of all Palestinian health workers who were arrested from Gaza and forcibly disappeared, and their legal status.

It also urged them to release them unless they are charged with internationally recognized criminal crimes, and to try them according to procedures that respect international standards for fair trial.

On March 24, the Israeli army arrested Khaled Al-Sir. Since then, he has remained detained in conditions that amount to enforced disappearance, according to the organization.

Amnesty International explained that after more than two months, the Israeli authorities continue not to reveal his fate or whereabouts. “The scraps of information that his family was able to obtain came only from his colleagues and the released detainees.”

The organization said that pending the release of Dr. Khaled Al-Sir, the authorities must disclose to his family his fate, whereabouts and reasons for his detention, and ensure that he has access to a lawyer and medical care.
