Informed sources said that the United States and NATO (NATO) are working on a new approach to supply Ukraine with weapons using money from alliance countries to pay the cost of buying or transporting American weapons.
This cooperation is about providing Ukraine with weapons at a time when US President Donald Trump expressed his frustration with the ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine.
Trump initially took a more reconciliation tone towards Russia while trying to end the war that has been going on for more than 3 years in Ukraine, but then threatened to start imposing customs duties and taking other measures if Moscow did not make any progress towards ending the conflict by the eighth of August.
Trump said last month that the United States would provide Ukraine with weapons that will be paid by European allies, but it did not indicate a way to complete this.
The sources said that NATO countries, Ukraine and the United States are working on developing a new mechanism that focuses on providing Kiev with American weapons listed on the list of priority Ukraine requirements.
Ukraine will give priority to the weapons it needs in batches worth about $ 500 million, provided that the alliance countries negotiate with each other in coordination by Secretary -General Mark Rawt to determine who will donate or finance the weapons listed on the list.
A European official, who declined to be identified, said that the alliance countries hoped for this mechanism to provide $ 10 billion in weapons to Ukraine, while the alliance refrained from commenting, and the White House, the Pentagon, or the Ukrainian embassy in Washington did not respond to requests for comment.
