Alexei Navalny’s funeral is due to take place this Friday in a church southeast of Moscow, in the district where he lived when he was still at large.

He was to be buried two hours later at the nearby Borissovo cemetery.

The church and cemetery are under police surveillance, and entire neighborhoods have been cordoned off.

Muscovites dissuaded from coming

Muscovites who wish to attend the funeral have been subjected to interrogations aimed at dissuading them from coming.

Alexei Navalny’s team claimed that funeral services refused to take his remains to the church, where the ceremony is planned.

Since his body was handed over to his mother on February 24, his associates have claimed to be looking for a place for a public farewell, but have been refused any request.

They accuse the authorities of putting pressure on funeral services.
