The Al-Qassam Brigades – the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) – announced that its fighters were able to detonate a booby-trapped house inside which an Israeli force was holed up in the Shaboura camp in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding members of the force.
She added that her fighters bombarded the vicinity of the house itself with mortar shells after a rescue force arrived there.
In the same context, the Al-Qassam Brigades said that they targeted a D-9 military bulldozer with an Al-Yassin 105 shell near Al-Awda Mosque in central Rafah.
The Al-Qassam Brigades also said that they bombed the forces stationed in the “Tal Al-Sultan” neighborhood in the city of Rafah, and broadcast scenes that they said were targeting occupation soldiers and vehicles in the Al-Taqaddum axis in the Yabna camp, south of the city of Rafah.
On May 6, the Israeli army announced the start of a military operation in Rafah, ignoring international warnings about its repercussions on the lives of the displaced people in the city, and the next day it took control of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
Israeli officials acknowledged on more than one occasion the difficulty of fighting in Rafah, and indicated that soldiers were engaged in “fierce confrontations” with Palestinian faction fighters in the Gaza Strip.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a war on Gaza that has left more than 121,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
Israel continues its war, despite a decision by the UN Security Council to stop it immediately, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, and to take measures to prevent acts of “genocide” from occurring, and to improve the miserable humanitarian situation in Gaza.
