Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza, Moamen Al-Sharafi: The occupation deprived me of even the last farewell kiss to my parents and siblings | News

Tel Aviv Tribune’s correspondent in Gaza, Moamen Al-Sharafi, said that an Israeli bombing with an explosive barrel led to the death of his parents and a number of his siblings, their wives and children. He added that the bombing created a deep crater ranging between 5 and 6 meters and claimed the lives of more than 21 people from his family.

He rejected the idea of displacement

He revealed that his father, Mahmoud (87 years old), absolutely rejected the idea of migrating south and repeating what he experienced in the Nakba of 1948, when he was displaced from the village of Harbia when he was 12 years old at the time.

He added that his father was a professor of history, and was well aware of the details of the Palestinian Nakba and always recounted them to him in the smallest details.

He pointed out that his family’s home was in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City, and then they were displaced to his house in the Al-Nasr neighborhood, north of the same city, before his father decided – under the weight of the Israeli bombing – to move to the Jabalia camp and stay in the northern Gaza Strip and not leave despite the intense insistence on him.

As for his mother – who also worked as a teacher for 35 years – she also rejected the idea of eviction and forced displacement, and always stressed that education is the Palestinians’ weapon to resist the Israeli occupation.

He pointed out – in a shaking voice – that his mother had sent him a voice message a few days ago via the WhatsApp application, expressing her longing for him, and her prayers for safety for him and all his fellow journalists.

He pointed out that he had promised to meet with her immediately after the end of the current Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, but the occupation missiles were faster than fulfilling this promise.

“No last goodbye kiss”

He revealed that civil defense crews were unable to recover any of his family’s bodies except a child, who was tossed by the intensity of the bombing to another place, where she was cut into pieces.

He expressed his sadness – often with tears – at not being able to give his family a final look and kiss as a result of the Israeli siege that cut off the Strip.

However, he sent a message of challenge to the occupation, saying that fellow journalists are continuing to continue their message and expose the crimes of Tel Aviv, whether by bombing or slow killing through the imposed siege that prevents the entry of food, medicine, and fuel, and cuts off electricity and water.

It should be noted that a number of family members of our colleague, Tel Aviv Tribune correspondent in Gaza, and its bureau director, Wael Al-Dahdouh, were martyred – including his wife, son, and daughter – in an Israeli bombing that targeted a house to which they were displaced in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip on October 25 last.

A week later, an Israeli bombing led to the death of 19 members of the family of the broadcast engineer in the Tel Aviv Tribune office in the Gaza Strip, Muhammad Abu Al-Qumsan.

Tel Aviv Tribune announced – today, Wednesday – the martyrdom of the parents of its correspondent in the Gaza Strip, Moamen Al-Sharafi, and a number of his brothers, as a result of a violent Israeli bombardment that targeted the Jabalia camp in the northern region, a month and a half after the martyrdom of members of the family of colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh.
