The military and strategic expert, Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi, said that the withdrawal of the occupation army from large areas in the northern Gaza Strip comes to get rid of a lost and failed battle, stressing that the tunnels that were discovered are service tunnels, not defensive ones.
Al-Duwairi explained – during his military analysis of Al-Jazeera – that the word withdrawal was not on the Israeli agenda after the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, as the talk was about occupying the Gaza Strip and displacing its population, but these terms changed and were introduced at the battle level in light of field developments.
He pointed out that the rule in military science says that withdrawal does not take place during the battle except to get rid of a failed battle and under duress and smokescreen, or to redeploy forces to help another area, indicating that the second case does not apply to the Gaza battles.
He stressed that the current battle is different and unparalleled because it is an asymmetric war between a regular army and armed factions, and also because it is a war inside cities where the Israeli army has no experience, in addition to being the first time that the surface of the earth separates the two sides of the fighting.
Gaza tunnels
Commenting on the occupation army’s statements that it had discovered strategic tunnels in Gaza, the military expert said that tunnels had already been discovered, but they were not defensive or offensive, but rather they were logistical service tunnels, dormitories, and ammunition storage areas.
He pointed out that some tunnels were designed for specific purposes, such as the tunnel that was discovered near the Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing, pointing out that whoever designed them had a high sense of security and separated their types, as it is not useful to flood them with water, because they are not based on the theory of cross-shaped vessels.
He added that the number of tunnels in Gaza is estimated at 1,300, and their length reaches 570 kilometers, and some of them may reach 3 floors.
