Military expert Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi said that the ambush of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), against Israeli forces and vehicles east of Khan Yunis (south of the Gaza Strip) carried spatial and temporal symbolism and local and regional messages.

Al-Duwairi explained to Al-Jazeera that the ambush took place in the Al-Fokhari area, east of Khan Yunis, a town that is difficult for the occupation forces, even though most of its buildings were destroyed due to intense aerial and artillery bombardment.

The location of the ambush carried symbolism, as it occurred one kilometer from the separation fence, according to Al-Duwairi, in addition to the symbolism of the timing, several months after the destruction of Khan Yunis and its infrastructure.

He said that the ambush carried messages and contents, including a message from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating, “You cannot deliver a victory speech on the anniversary of October 7.”

He also carried a message to Netanyahu’s supporters and opponents – according to Al-Duwairi – the content of which was: “You must stop because it is leading you to the abyss, and do not dream of the settlers returning to the north and releasing the prisoners to the south.”

He explained that the ambush included a message stating that “Palestinian and Lebanese blood is one after the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah,” and a message to Hezbollah fighters to target Israeli vehicles, as Al-Qassam did in Gaza over the course of a year.

Tel Aviv Tribune broadcast exclusive scenes of a complex ambush carried out by the Al-Qassam Brigades against the Israeli occupation army in stages east of Khan Yunis, and called it “Renewal of the Covenant and Allegiance.”

The scenes showed Israeli vehicles of various types catching fire and Al-Qassam fighters taking control of military equipment.

Al-Duwairi stressed that the resistance and attrition operations “continue as long as the Israeli vehicles remain inside the Gaza Strip,” and ruled out the existence of a ceasefire, stressing the increasing complications of the battle due to the retreat of the occupation forces.

He reiterated his emphasis that the opportunity for resistance after a year of fighting is “zero distance,” and is achieved either by “the entry of the occupation army forces or the implementation of raids against the forces stationed in Gaza.”

The military expert cited the recent Qassam sightings east of Rafah and Khan Yunis, in addition to the attack by dozens of fighters on Israeli points in the Netzarim axis, coinciding with the second Iranian attack on Israel.

He touched on the human and material rehabilitation of resistance factions through recruiting new fighters, direct use of occupation waste, or recycling them through reverse engineering.
