Afghanistan: return to Kabul for two former Guantanamo prisoners


The Taliban obtain the return to Kabul of two former Guantanamo detainees who spent at least 14 years in the American detention center on the island of Cuba.

American forces arrested Abdul Zahir Saber and Abdul Karim in 2002.

According to documents revealed by the New York Times, Abdul Zahir Saber was suspected of being involved in a trafficking of chemical and biological weapons for Al Qaeda.

The two men spent at least 14 years in the US detention center on the island of Cuba before being placed under house arrest in Oman in 2017.

Taliban authorities have lobbied for their return to Afghanistan.
