Israeli Prosecutor Ghali Bahrav Mayra -Sunday -said that one of the advisers of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -wanted by the International Criminal Court -is facing security accusations and will attend a hearing, on charges of leaking severe military information during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Jonathan Oreikh, close adviser to Netanyahu, denied that any violations in the case that the judicial authorities began investigating in late 2024.
Netanyahu described the investigations directed at Oreikh and other assistants as a “brochure campaign”.
Baharav Mayra said – in a statement – that Oreikh and another assistant to a secret information from the Israeli army for the German newspaper Bild, with the intention of violating the security of the state.
She stated that they were seeking to influence public opinion regarding Netanyahu and direct the speech about the killing of 6 Israeli prisoners by their Palestinian prisoners in Gaza in late August 2024.
The killing of the six prisoners led to the outbreak of mass protests in Israel and angered their families, who accused Netanyahu of sabotaging the ceasefire talks that have fallen in the past weeks for political reasons.
Netanyahu strongly denies this, and has repeatedly claimed that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is responsible for the collapse of the talks, while the movement says that Israel is responsible for not reaching an agreement.
The article was published in the Bild newspaper, days after the bodies of the prisoners were found inside a Hamas tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip.
The newspaper said after the announcement of the investigation that it did not comment on its sources, and that its article relied on original documents.
