Abbas: Hamas will not rule Gaza and the only solution is to enable the Palestinian state news

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas – Sunday – said that “the only applicable solution” in Gaza is “the complete withdrawal of Israel and the enabling of the Palestinian state” to assume its responsibilities in the Strip “with effective Arab and international support”, stressing that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) “will not rule” the sector.

This came during his meeting – at his residence in the Jordanian capital, Amman – former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, according to the official Palestinian News Agency (Wafa).

Abbas discussed with Blair during the meeting, “The latest developments in the Palestinian land, and the ongoing political and humanitarian developments.”

The Palestinian President stressed “the need to reach an immediate ceasefire, the release of all the hostages (Israelis) and the (Palestinian) prisoners, and ensure the introduction of urgent humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip without obstacle.”

He also pointed out that “Hamas will not govern the Gaza Strip the next day.”

He said that Hamas “must hand its weapons to the Palestinian Authority, and engage in political action by adhering to the Political Liberation Organization program, its international program, international legitimacy, the principles of one system, one law and one legal weapon.”

The Palestinian arena has been suffering a political and geographical division since 2007, as Hamas has controlled the Gaza Strip, while the West Bank has managed governments formed by the Fatah movement led by President Abbas.

Abbas stressed “the necessity of stopping all unilateral measures, foremost of which is settlement expansion, rejecting the annexation (the West Bank), and stopping the repeated attacks on Islamic and Christian sanctities.”

He also stressed the importance of launching a serious political process to implement a two -state solution, based on international legitimacy decisions, the Arab Peace Initiative and through an international peace conference in New York.

A few days ago, the Qatari capital, Doha, has been witnessing a new round of indirect negotiations between the delegations of Hamas and Israel, through Qatari and Egyptian, and with the American participation, with the aim of reaching a ceasefire agreement and the exchange of prisoners.

Earlier Sunday, Hamas and Islamic Jihad stressed that “any indirect negotiations with Israel must lead to ending the war of extermination on Gaza, the entire Israeli withdrawal from the Strip, the opening of the crossings, and the reconstruction.”

An international conference on a two -state solution in New York, headed by Saudi Arabia and France, will be held on July 28, according to the Palestinian Undersecretary and Expatriate Undersecretary Omar Awadallah, on Saturday to the official “Voice of Palestine” radio.
