An international UN investigation committee said that Israel committed crimes against humanity in the war on Gaza, “such as genocide,” and Tel Aviv protested this and accused the committee of bias.
The committee stated in a presentation to be presented to the United Nations Human Rights Council next week that “Palestinian men and boys have been targeted through crimes against humanity, such as genocide and persecution, in addition to murders, forced transfers, torture, and inhuman or cruel treatment.”
The investigation committee drew these results from two simultaneous reports, one of which focused on the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation carried out by the Palestinian resistance on October 7, and the other focused on the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza for 8 months.
The investigation committee accused 7 “armed Palestinian groups” of committing “war crimes” since October 7.
The head of the investigation committee, Navi Pillay, said: “It is necessary to hold everyone who committed crimes accountable.”
The Human Rights Council formed the investigation committee in May 2021, and was given a broad mandate to collect evidence and identify perpetrators of international crimes committed in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.
In its first response, Israel accused the investigation committee of practicing “systematic discrimination” against it, and Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Merav Elon-Shahar, confirmed in a statement that the investigation committee “proved once again that its actions are all in service of a political agenda focused on opposing Israel.”
On the other hand, the committee says that Israel obstructs its work and prevents its investigators from accessing areas in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.
