It was a bloody morning that it witnessed on June 8, when the Nuseirat camp witnessed one of the most horrific massacres committed by the Israeli occupation army during the first year of its aggression against Gaza, which resulted in the martyrdom of 274 Palestinians, in addition to hundreds of wounded, after Israeli warplanes launched A series of violent raids on the camp.

Pharmacist Dr. Samer Abu Rawida was a witness to this terrible massacre, as he lived those harsh moments between his attempts to save his family and his witnessing of the devastation that befell the place.

The beginning of the massacre

Dr. Samer, who was working normally in the pharmacy, recounts the details of those terrifying hours that began with heavy gunfire and missiles from Israeli aircraft. With the passage of half an hour, things began to deteriorate rapidly, as the gunfire came very close to where he was.

Samer says that the citizens in the Nuseirat camp were moving around normally; Because the area was considered a humanitarian zone, according to what the occupation declared, but its planes opened – without warning – machine gun fire towards the western entrance to Nuseirat, andIt targeted every citizen in the street with a large number of missiles, amid screams of panic.

In an immediate reaction, the doctor went up to his family’s house on the fifth floor, and with great difficulty, he took his family down to a small room in the pharmacy to take shelter, but as soon as they reached it, a missile fell in front of the building, and it was later revealed that it resulted in three injuries.

As the bombing by Israeli warplanes escalated, approximately 15 people, in addition to Samer’s family, took shelter in a small warehouse in the pharmacy.

Difficult moments

The tanks advanced towards the entrance to Al-Hassaniyah, while Dr. Samer could hear the sound of soldiers’ feet at the pharmacy door, and in the background the sounds of successive explosions. No one could move to see what was happening outside, but the sounds of shells, intense fire, and bombs filled the place, and as a result, the ceiling collapsed on those in the small warehouse.

Samer says: We tried hard to silence the young children throughout the two hours that the event lasted, for fear that the soldiers would discover their presence, but in a sudden moment, my little girl cried out of fear, which he noticed. One of the soldiers threw a bomb into the pharmacy, which exploded and scattered shrapnel everywhere.

God destined that Samer and those hiding would survive, except for some injuries they sustained due to shrapnel, but when he came out after the tanks withdrew, he saw an indescribable terrifying scene: “Shattered cars, fires everywhere, the bodies of the martyrs scattered on the ground, and the buildings destroyed beyond measure.” “Believe.”

During the operation, the Israeli army targeted several residential homes and open areas in the Nuseirat camp and the city of Deir al-Balah, leading to the death of dozens of Palestinians and the injury of hundreds.
