A South Korean court has forced former President Yun Suk Yol to appear at the public prosecution, after he refused to leave his cell for the ongoing investigation against the background of the martial law in the country.
The local “Yonhap” news agency reported that the Central Soul Court agreed to the request of the Prosecutor’s “Min Jong Ki” team, who leads the investigation with the former president (forced Yun to attend to the investigation).
A spokeswoman for a special team from the public prosecutor or Jong-hee said today that Yoon had lying on the floor of his cell and refused to leave for interrogation, adding that the investigators would try to bring him again even by force.
“Yonhap” quoted the prosecution team that Yoon was wearing the internal shirt and pants when the prosecution representatives came to his cell.
But the defense team for Yoon considered the announcement of what it was wearing in a narrow place, as the temperature was approaching 40 degrees Celsius, a public insult to the dignity of the isolated president, and shows how the state violates the human rights of prisoners. Yoon’s lawyers attributed his lack of deterioration.
Political reasons
The isolated president shall be tried for a rebellion, whose sentences reach death or life imprisonment. He also faces a series of investigations into scandals surrounding his wife, the former first lady Kim Keon He, as the couple was not appropriately impact on the elections.
Yun denied committing any violations, and his lawyers accused the claim of targeting him for political reasons.
Yoon was dismissed from his post after announcing the martial law on December 3, 2024, and was arrested last January, and it was decided to be released on March 7, after accepting his objection.
A second arrest warrant was issued against him on July 9, to be arrested the next day at a detention center in the capital, Seoul.
On December 3, 2024, Yoon declared martial law in the country with the aim of “eliminating the forces loyal to North Korea, preserving freedom and constitutional system in the country,” and accused the opposition of involvement in anti -state activities.
After the announcement, Parliament, after an emergency session, issued a statement announcing the abolition of martial law after the vote of deputies.
Customary rulings are a set of extensive rules and measures that the state resorted to under emergency conditions that allow it temporarily to disrupt all or some of the laws in force in it, to ward off the dangers that the country is exposed to.
