The American “The Hill” website published statements to an American official, which he described as Al -Rafie without revealing his name, in which he said that the modern borders of Israel are “drawn on fake lines.”
A report – prepared by journalist Laura Kelly – quoted the high official of his doubts about the survival of some national countries in the Middle East, and held Europe responsible for dividing the region during the past decades, and expressed his admiration for the Ottoman Empire.
The official made these statements during a “background” media statement in which he discussed the signing of US President Donald Trump yesterday an executive order to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria, and the administration’s efforts to establish diplomatic relations between the new Syrian government and Israel.
“The lines drawn in the years 1926, 1948, 1967 and 1974 are all just illusions. These lines were drawn based on facts that were at the time,” the official said, referring to the diplomatic efforts made by Trump to build mutual trust in an area where the border clashes abound.
She seized it by force
Kelly reported that the officials’ statements came in response to a question criticizing the recognition of the American administration, Israel’s control of lands it seized during the wars.
She pointed out that Israeli officials had previously announced that they would not return the Golan Heights to Syria as part of any peace agreement, and Israel has expanded its presence inside Syrian territory since the overthrow of former Syrian President Bashar al -Assad.
In his first term, Trump confessed to Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
“How do we get to a stop of hostilities without recycling the views that have not succeeded in a hundred years? This begins with a model similar to the Sinai agreement that took place between Israel and Egypt in the past, and we have to ask: Why do we not stop fighting about the location of the separation line?”
Israel withdrew from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982 as part of the Camp David peace treaty with Egypt.
Do not care about drawing the borders
When the official was asked to clarify the Trump administration’s position on the form of the Israeli border, he answered that the administration “does not care about drawing the borders, the blue line, the red line, the green line, the 1967 agreement, the 1974 agreement, the 1979 agreement and its amendments, or the side messages … the matter does not end.”
“What should happen is a consensus in the visions between the conflicting parties, and if we can help in that, we will do so.”
“Let’s talk about how to coexist, and about the essence of the problem … What we need is to build confidence, they only have to build confidence day after day. The problem is not in the separation line, but in those who threaten the other through that line. Because the conflict will continue forever.”
Middle East tearing
Kelly reported that the official expanded in his statements the scope of the conversation to criticize the steadfastness of the “nation -state” as a concept, pointing to what he described as the “ugly hand of the West” that tore the Middle East, citing the Sykes -Picot agreement and the division of the Ottoman Empire into British and French influence areas.
“The Ottoman Empire was not based on the nation -state … it had a central government, but it allowed each region to be ranked independently within the framework of an appeal system. What we seek now may be something new. The national countries have not succeeded much,” the official said.
“I do not think that the concept of the nation -state is a concept that is constantly continuing for centuries. What the president is trying to do, which is how it is, is to reach a stop for hostilities, find peace and prosperity, and spread hope in the hearts of people in order to start a real dialogue,” the official added.
It should be noted that the “national state” is a form of political organization in which the borders of the state coincide with the borders of the “nation”, that is, with a population group that shares cultural, ethnic, linguistic, or historical features, and has an independent political entity and a sovereign government.
